The first step in any treatment journey at Morphē is to assess your needs and determine the right path forward for you. This will be done in a formal consultation with your surgeon.

Once you have determined the best option for you, your surgeon will discuss the surgery, procedure or treatment in detail with you including how it is performed, how it works, what results you can expect and also the possible complications/risks.

Beyond your initial consultation, and depending on your treatment pathway, you may require access to other members of our fully specialised team. All consulting from one supportive space, this team includes surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, exercise physiologists, clinical nurse, bariatric GPs and our endocrinologist (if and when needed).

PRIVATE HEALTH FOR WEIGHT LOSS & GENERAL SURGERY

Private health insurance requirements vary depending on your health fund, level of cover and the procedure being performed (MBS item number).

Weight loss surgery requires Gold or Top Hospital cover, depending on your individual policy.

Cosmetic procedures, Lipodema surgery and the Allurion Gastric Balloon procedure are not covered by private health insurance.

UNINSURED & SELF-FUNDED SURGICAL PATIENTS

If you are uninsured or self-funded, it’s important to note that there are further costs associated with your care in a private hospital as well as fees for anaesthetist and surgical assistant.

The total amount will depend on a number of factors, including: the type of surgery, the hospital, the anaesthetist.

As an uninsured patient, other costs that you can expect to pay are;

• Scans & Medications

With all surgeries, there are associated risks. In the unlikely event that a patient experiences a complication/emergency that requires further treatment, if you are uninsured, further costs may be applicable.

COSMETIC SURGERY

Cosmetic surgery is surgery performed primarily to change or enhance appearance, where there is no eligible medical indication for the procedure and therefore no relevant medicare item number.

Cosmetic surgery is self funded. Medicare rebates and private health insurance benefits do not apply, and GST is applicable to cosmetic procedures.

The total cost of cosmetic surgery will depend on the procedure being performed, the complexity and expected duration of surgery, and the hospital or facility where your procedure takes place.

Your individual quotation may include costs associated with:

• Your surgeon
• Surgical assistant, where required
• Anaesthetist
• Hospital and theatre fees
• Implants, prostheses or other surgical products, where applicable
• Scans & medications, where reqiured
• Post-operative garments, where required
• Follow-up care

ACCESSING SUPERANNUATION FOR WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

Some patients are eligible to access superannuation to pay for their treatment under what is called ‘Compassionate Medical Grounds’.

To be eligible, you must meet the criteria set by the ATO, specifically as it relates to requiring medical treatment to treat a life-threatening illness. Read more about accessing your super on compassionate medical grounds here.

Accessing superannuation will require reports supporting your claim from both your surgeon and your GP and must be applied for via your MyGov account. We can discuss this process with you and assist you with the requirements.
