Breast Augmentation (incl. Implants) — Approximate Costs

Breast augmentation performed for cosmetic reasons does not attract a Medicare item number. There is no Medicare rebate or private health insurance benefit, and GST applies — patients are responsible for the full cost of surgery.

In rare cases, such as reconstruction following mastectomy or significant breast deformity, a procedure may attract a relevant Medicare item number. This is assessed individually by Dr Cameron during a formal consultation.

Approximate Cost Breakdown

• Surgeon Fee (incl. surgical assistant, breast implants & GST): $10,000
• Anaesthetist: $1,500 – $2,000
• Hospital (day stay): $4,200 – $5,200
• Compression bra: $90 – $300

Optional: Fat Grafting

• Surgeon Fee (incl. surgical assistant): from $3,000
• Additional hospital fee (uninsured): from $1,700

All fees are approximate only and vary based on individual patient needs, including time in theatre, individual hospital and anaesthetist scheduled. Dr Cameron’s surgeon fee includes the surgical assistant fee where applicable.

Breast augmentation is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance, as it is classified as a cosmetic procedure. The full cost of surgery, including your hospital admission and anaesthetic, is your responsibility. In rare cases — such as reconstruction following mastectomy or significant breast deformity — a Medicare item number may apply; this is assessed individually by Dr Cameron during your consultation.

All surgical quotes are based on the planned procedure. In some cases, additional costs may arise if:

• Unforeseen surgical complexity requires a longer operative time, stay in hospital or additional procedures
• Post-operative complications require further treatment, dressings, revision surgery or hospital admission
• Additional pathology, imaging or specialist review is required
• Wound care, compression garments or post-operative support beyond the standard recovery period is needed
• ICU admission or an ICU specialist review is required
• Medications on discharge beyond the standard supply

Where possible, Dr Cameron will discuss any anticipated complexity at your consultation.  The surgical plan needs to be finalised for final quoting.

Please note that post-operative compression garments are a mandatory part of recovery for most surgical procedures. These are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance and are an additional out-of-pocket cost. Garment costs are listed separately in the cost overview above.
